I've been on Neopets since it was about 6 months old, on different accounts.
I've compiled a list of tips that just about every other help site has,
but mine has a few personal touches. If you have any questions, feel free to neomail me.

• There are a lot of scammers out there. They will contact you and they will try blackmail, they will try to say that they are the TheNeopetsTeam, and they will try to steal your account by asking for your password. They are losers with nothing better to do than take fake money and images from people. That's what those items are: images. And people try to take them. What losers, huh? Bottom line: never give out your password. Ever. Never ever ever. Don't even write it down.
• Sell stuff in your shop!! And people spam the boards wondering why they're not rich. I notice that these people either a) have no shop or b) have rotten berrys, bottles of sand, and palm fans in their shops. SELL ITEMS IN YOUR SHOP, IT IS THE B-E-S-T WAY TO MAKE NP!
• Visit Tombola, Coltzan's Shrine, The Giant Jelly, Healing Springs, Scratchcard Kiosk, Advent Calendar, Giant Omelette, and the Fruit Machine at least once per day. By visiting these things you not only get Np and free items, but the more you will have to spend on quality items to sell in your shop.
• You don't need a NeoHome. Your pets are not ever going to die, even if you starve them for three years. nor do they get cold, or do they care if they have a home with top-of-the-line furniture. If you have the extra Np to spend, go ahead and make one. Otherwise, stay away from them.
• Your pet does NOT need to be painted! I sell Paint brushes, and you wouldn't believe how many neomails I get from losers asking if they can have one. It isn't vital to your pets' life. They're nice to have, but they're a luxury. The chats have people asking for someone to give them a paint brush all the time. Just save your Np and buy one like everyone else.
• Never be a beggar. If you are really so poor that you're begging people for free handouts, you can go to the Soup Kitchen or the Money Tree. No one has the right to beg at Neopets with all the free games there, and I'm surprised I see it as often as I do.
• There is no way to get rich quick. You can invest in as many cheats as you want, but the bottom line is: selling items in your shop is the way to make Np. Lots of people get tricked by scammers because they are at a loss and want to be rich now. Success takes patience: just sell stuff in your shop.
• Keep your NeoPoints in the bank: There is now a 'Tax Beast'. If I'm carrying 1,000,000 Np with me, and he suddenly pops up and takes ten percent of it, that's 100,000 Np gone. If you want to take risks like that, hey, go ahead, but don't say nobody warned ya.
