King Of The Music - Valentino

Irish Born Valentino .... ( Jackie Farn ) came up through the tough ranks of English Showbiz ...working with all of the greats such as Tom Jones, Humperdink, Bassey ,and Sinatra.
A Master of his craft ... he has wowed audiences throughout the world..none more than in Las Vegas - where he is a regular performer...A new CD has just been released which features the best of his most popular live performances....at the New Desert Inn. His custom made Yamaha Piano and Accordion, together with his Wonderful Live Performances ...have gained him the title of "King of The Music" throughout the World. Jackie is still performing to standing oviations all over the World - and when he's not Travelling he lives a quiet lifestyle with his Beautiful Wife Lyne, in a lovely part of Essex,as well as commuting between his other two homes in Tenerife , and Las Vegas.
One recent Vegas review summmed up a recent Valentino performance saying .."He's a magical musican, who has changed audiences live concert experiences for ever. Don't miss the chance to see him. He truly deserves the undisputed title of "King of the Music". I couldn't agree more with that Reviewer after listening to the Master at work on this beautiful new CD..."Valentino - Live in Las Vegas".

The Glasgow Empire - Keeping Scottish Variety Alive

Although the Glasgow Empire was demolished in 1963 - i'm glad to say it lives on with the dedicated work of Bob Bain.Bob is also the Secretary of the Scottish Music Hall and Variety Theatre Society, which has members worldwide. He is keeping the memories alive of the old theatre, with a well informed Web Site which includes some of the greats that worked it over the years gone by - but enough said - Why not step back to the good old days - with the help of Bob, and re live at night at the "Glasgow Empire"

Cruise Ships of the Past !

The Fairstar
The Troop Ship that became the Funship Passenger Liner

I must have been one of the "rare" few Entertainers who did NOT work the Great Cruise Liner - The Fairstar. Although I came close many times , it's a bit sad in a way , as I would have liked to have been a part of the history of the great "Funship' as she was known.
I did however manage to at least go on board the great lady ..during a stopover on another Cruise Ship in Noumea...This was during her final years, working the South Pacific out of her home base of Sydney. When P&O's Fairstar sailed out of Sydney Harbour on her last cruise on January 21, 1997, glistening in her wake was an illustrious career spanning almost a quarter century as one of the world's most successful, enduring and loved ships.

10 February 1997 - Fairstar still looked great, just if she was ready to sail the Pacific one more time. However, in reality she was a sad lonely sight with her successor just astern "The Fair Princess.

Then without warning, early in the morning two days later, with her dolphin logo painted out in white, and the name Ripa crudely painted on her bow and upper name board, she quietly slipped her berth and soon passed Sydney Heads for very last time. She then set course for a long slow voyage to Alang, India, were she was beached and broken up for scrap. Australian’s and New Zealander’s had felt that Fairstar had been a Ripa of a ship indeed! (“Ripa” is Australian slang for great or fantastic).

Next Month: "The Coral Princess"

Cruise Ship of the Month

Built in Turkey in 1975 ! named BELORUSSIYA in 1975, then renamed again the KAZAKHSTAN II in1993.....she also had a mishap in Singapore Harbour, and suffered major damage -but after an extensive refit in 1996 she was given her new name of "The Delphin". Many of you Australian Entertainers who read this page ...would have worked her many times, as I did ...when she operated under The Black Sea Shipping Company.....through CTC in Sydney.
The Delphin does cruising throughout the World ...and has visited Australia and NZ on World Voyages. to see some more recent shots of this great Lady See This I must admit she still looks great !

Next Month: "The Veendam"
