Bill Reid's Tribute to The Tivoli Theatre - Aberdeen
As a young boy growing up in Scotland, I remember my trips to Aberdeen very well indeed. My Dad was originally from The "Bridge of Don".I did my first Radio Audition for BBC Scotland at the Studios there
...and of course saw many live shows as well. Aberdeen's TIvoli Theatre presented many of the Top variety Shows in those days.....
Many years later, at the age of fourteen I was appearing in a Grampian television show called "THREE"S COMPANY" where we used to tape the shows up at the Queens Cross TV Studios in Aberdeen , and then go out on the Road appearing with the same show in the North East Area of Scotland. It was during that time I visited the Tivoli Theatre with one of the stars from our Show singer Steve Cameron
, and we went backstage to Visit a man I had the greatest admiration for - Accordionist Will Starr ...who I knew somewhat for spending time with him backstage at the Empire Theatre in Inverness. AT the Tivoli working at that time was a young Stage Lighting Operator, by the name of Bill Reid ( Pictured )

...we never ever met in those early days ...but I'm sure I must have passed him, if not seen him briefly on my visit that night.
Bill has put together some of his photographs, memories ,and thoughts into a great Web Site and Tribute to the Tivoli. There are some great photographs taken by Bill himself of just some of the stars that graced the stage there.Although the Tivoli finally closed it's doors on Variety Shows in 1963, and carried on later as a Bingo Hall..... But I'm glad to say that the Tivoli has now been renovated....and has a new lease of life ..and hopefully Variety Shows may return to this great lady of Scottish Theatre.
