The classification "Miniflora" has recently been added to cover what
was once Miniature roses that had blooms slightly larger then the standard
size. They are not quite large enough to fall into the classification
of Floribunda, but to large to be considered a Miniature.
The plants can range in size from 18 inches to 4 feet or more.

~ Califonia Heart ~ This is an orange-red mini flora, created by the late Dee Bennett. The plant attains a height of about knee high with dark green foliage. The blooms start out bright orange, but quickly change to coral as the flowers opens. The blooms have HT form and lots of petals for a slow opening flower. The parentage is 'Futura' (large, orange-red HT) and 'Jean Kenneally' (apricot blend, mini show champion). (photo by: Sue O'Brien) ( note: This rose will be introduced by Tiny Petals Nursery in January of 2003. 'California Heart' was named at the 2002 ARS Spring Convention.)

~ Madeline Spezzano ~ The rich, cotton candy pink blooms have a deeper pink reverse, which highlights the wonderful form. With it's exremely high petal count, 'Madeline Spezzano' tends to open very slow, often lasting for 2 to 3 weeks on the bush and more than a week as a cut flower. The seed parent was the popular, peach colored florist floribunda, 'Sonia'. The pink blend, slightly larger than mini rose, 'Little Melody', was the pollen parent. Both of these parents help to account for the larger blooms of this mini flora. The plant of 'Madeline Spezzano' reaches an average of about 24 to 30 inches high and wide. The leaves are deep green and semi-glossy; but unfortunately, this beautiful foliage does have a tendency to mildew, if not sprayed regularly. (photo by: Sue O'Brien)

~ Remembering Dee ~ A mini flora that is a sport of "Madeline Spezzano" and introduced in 2007 by Greenhart Nursery (new owner of Tiny Petals) This beautiful full petal prue white sport was found in the garden at Tiny Petals by Dick Sparks. The growth and health for this plant would mostly be the same as "Madeline Spezzano". (It was named to honor the memory of Tiny Petals creator Dee Bennett ) (photo by: SueO'Brien)

~ Rowdy Roy ~ A mini flora that was created by Dee Bennett (aka Mom). This rose could be released by Tiny Petals Nursery as early as summer of 2003, if Dick gives the go ahead. The blooms of 'Rowdy Roy' are usually borne one-to-a-stem on a low growing plant which rarely get more than 2 feet tall. The plant is generous, and the bloom hold for more than a week on bush. The parent are a strange cross of 'October' and 'Orange Honey'. Remarkably, the seedling created by this cross of 2 golden orange flower makes red and pink striped flowers, baring absolutely no comparison to either parent for form or color. 'Rowdy Roy' is named for my uncle, who is the last of Mom's siblings to have a namesake rose. (photo by: SueO'Brien)

~ Sweet Arlene ~ Another of the great Dee Bennett roses. It is a cross of 'Lagerfeld' (a sweet smelling lavender HT) and 'Ernie' (a generous lavender mini). The result is a mini flora that makes blooms with great HT form and the pale mauve coloring of both it's parents. Best of all is the strong, sweet smell of the 2 to 3 inch blooms. The plant is vigorous, averaging knee to waist high, and makes loads of long stemmed flowers and sprays. (photo by: Sue O'Brien)

~ Yantai ~ This wonderful, cream to pale yellow mini flora has so many petals that it takes days...even weeks...to go from buds to fully open flowers. The healthy, knee to hip high plant makes loads of one-to-a-stem blooms and sprays on strong stems. This is another Dee Bennett rose; and it's parents were Portrait (a pink blend HT) and Party Girl (the yellow blend, mini Hall of Fame winner). Both those parents helped to give this rose a range of pastel colors. In warm weather, the soft yellow blooms display a warmer golden center and a delicate blush on the edge of the petals.
