One of the most beautiful sights in California is the golden poppy.  They bloom in riots along the freeway, in open fields and in home gardens.

I tried planting poppies from seed, but didn't have much luck.  A friend pulled some up by the root from her garden and shared them with me, and I've had them growing abundantly since then!  They re-seed themselves and grow just about anywhere they please!  They are so delicate, yet so hardy and colorful!  And lots of fun to paint!
