The story of Carolyn begins at Central Michigan University in the 1950's. Carolyn was a student who lived in the university's Barnard hall.

One afternoon, there was a gathering in the courtyard that Carolyn and her roommates were attending. Carolyn left before her roommates did, claiming she was suffering from a headache. When her roommates returned, Carolyn was already in bed, sleeping... But what they discovered in the morning when they tried to wake her, was that she was not sleeping, but was dead.

No-one was sure what had killed poor Carolyn, but to those who lived in her room in Barnard hall knew she hadn't left.

She has been seen, floating above her old bed, all dressed in white, her face frozen in a scream. Paranoia from the ghostly appearances caused the school to re-number the dorm rooms in Barnard hall so no-one knew which room Carolyn had died in.

This didn't stop Carolyn from making her presence know. She would inhabit the attic of Barnard, that even though the door was locked all year, when the janitor would go up to the attic at the end of the school year, everything would be in disarray.

It was also said that if Carolyn was out roaming campus, the attic window would be open, and if she was home, the window would be closed.

The story of Carolyn's death is always been a mystery, but on Devil's Night 1995, some adventurous students decided to go straight to the source.

After hearing Carolyn's story during the haunted campus tour, a few students took a Ouji board to the courtyard of Barnard to try and contact her. When they reached her, she told them a story of murder and betrayal.

Her death was not of natural causes, but was a murder. Carolyn told that it was her boyfriend who suffocated her, killing her so it would look like natural causes. When they questioned her, all she would say is, "He's coming! He's here!"

They did not stick around to meet the murderer face to face.

The summer of 1996, Barnard hall was torn down, leaving Carolyn's spirit homeless. But Central Michigan University's most active ghost did not leave the campus. It is said that a ghostly figure dressed in white has been seen most often around the Park Library pond. So, Carolyn is still lurking around, and perhaps on some cloudless night you might see her as you cross campus.
