Personally appeared Francis Coyle
of East Dubuque whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who being by me first fuly sworn, according to law, does depose and say that he is fifty two years of age;

"that he is well aquainted [sic] with John Hartung late a Private in Co. F. 45 Reg. Ills. Vol. Inf. having been a private in the same Co. and Reg. himself at the same time, that on or about the 27 day of Dec. 1864, the Battalion to which said John Hartung and the affiant belonged, was forced to ford the Tennessee River near Decatur Ala. the water was very cold and from 4 to 5 feet deep. Said John Hartung took a severe cold at that time and was quite sick afterwards. He was sent back with the [______] of the sick. It appeared very hard for said John Hartung to breathe after he took cold, and he could not Speak Above a Whisper."


and that his Post Office address is East Dubuque County of Jo Daviess State of Ills. and he further says that the knowledge of the above facts is obtained from the following source, viz.: personal observation at the time and places aforementioned and that he has no interest in the prosecution of this claim.

Sworn to and subscribed before me this 22 day of March A.D. 1887 and that I hereby certify that I have no interest nor concern in the prosecution of said claim, and that I read the foregoing to deponent, and that he has subscribed and sworn to the same with a full knowledge of its contents.
